There are so many different anti-virus and anti-spyware programs available. Which one is the best?

December 19, 2008

The major manufacturers in the market are McAfee, Norton and Kaspersky.  All sell their solution via prepackaged software.  When one purchases software, one assumes it can be used as long as the software is owned.  This is not the case with McAfee and Norton.  Their systems stop providing virus definition updates one year from the time the software is activated.  Once virus definitions are out of date, the user is vulnerable to virus infection.

In this writer’s opinion, Kaspersky’s solution was the best.  Their technology was easy to install and configure.  In addition, their online and offline support were superb.  Most important, this writer did not run into any virus problems while using Kaspersky.

The same could not be said for Norton and, especially, McAfee.  McAfee’s phone support was especially atrocious.  It took several phone calls, a $60+ “support” charge and numerous online chat sessions to remove a virus from the writer’s computer.  This computer was supposed to be continually protected by their software…yet still became infected.

In short, Kaspersky’s solution is the route to go for hassle free virus protection.

I can’t seem to get the internet to work on my PC. I’m running Windows XP with Firefox, and it says that it can’t display the webpage when it’s in offline mode or something like that. How do I fix that?

December 18, 2008

The Firefox Browser has a setting to work offline. Is there a chance that this has been activated without your knowledge? To check, please click “File” ( in the menu bar) and look for the “Work Offline” menu item. If it is checked, then uncheck it, and you should be able to surf the Web. If it is not checked, and the rest of your Internet applications are working correctly, then more than likely, you do not have an Internet connection. Please check your connection to the Internet and make sure that you are connecting.  Possible problems could be ISP related, or something as simple as a cable being disconnected.

December 10, 2008

Where can I find information to get fast and easy student loans?

December 4, 2008

Student loans are usually not easy to find but are generally easy to get. If you want to go to school but don’t have the money, apply for loans, grants, and aid from the department of education in your country. Also, more than likely, your university of choice will have a financial aid program that only requires going into the student services building at your school and inquiring about. You can also apply online for private loan plans that give you much more leeway in terms of the amount of credit you receive and when you have to pay it all back. The school you applied to should also offer grants for good grades, extracurricular activities, and community service as well.
