What is FAFSA?

January 27, 2009

FAFSA is an acronym meaning Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Any and all students hoping to get scholarships and/or federal grants to attend college must fill one of these forms out. Filled out online, the FAFSA application will help the government analyze your current tax bracket and family earnings in order to determine how much money in grants you will receive. The FAFSA is the college standard when it comes to financial aid and all students are encouraged to at least apply. Before you begin, make sure you have all of the necessary social security, residency, tax returns, earnings reports, and your dependency status ready to go.

What’s the difference between a regular college and a community college?

January 20, 2009

The primary difference is that community colleges offer Assosciates degrees whereas a regular college will offer both an Associates degree and a Bachelor’s degree. Community colleges charge per course you take and four year universities charge per semester. You can complete your general education courses at a community college and transfer to a four year university afterwards. Students that work full time prefer community college because it fits in with their schedule. At a university you are expected to go to school full time. Community colleges are also usually more lenient with their entry requirements, allowing for almost anyone to apply and get accepted to complete their degree.
