What requirements are necessary to obtain a pilot’s license?
A:
To obtain your private pilot’s license, as required by the FAA, you must fly a single engine private aircraft for at least 40 hours. You must be at least 17 years of age to obtain your license and at least 16 years of age to fly solo. Generally, the first 20 hours of your flight training will be done under the supervision of a flight instructor. The instructor will ensure that you are able to handle the aircraft properly and will sign off in an FAA approved flight log book that you are ready to fly solo. Once you have achieved 40 hours of flight time you will take a written exam of which you must pass with a 70% or higher. Lastly, you will go up in the aircraft you trained in to pass the actual flight exam. An FAA instructor will sign off in your log book and issue you a private pilot’s license upon completion and passage.
